When Brian Wood and Kim Boos met almost three years ago they had an instant connection.  Kim was a pastry chef running a custom cake and wholesale pastry business (Haute Cakes) and Brian was a graphic designer who, with the inspiration from Kim would soon launch a line of graphic tees (Side B Apparel). Just a  few months after dating, Kim and Brian decided to bring their two professions together as Tee & Cakes to facilitate the growth of Haute Cakes and to continue to grow the Side B Apparel line. They bought a smoothie shop in downtown Boulder and converted it onto Tee & Cakes on September 24, 2007.

Tee & Cakes features wedding cakes, a daily selection of cupcakes, custom celebration cakes, in-house baked pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and an apparel line. Additionally Tee & Cakes is also an espresso and coffee bar serving up some of the best java in Boulder. They feature Boulder Organic Coffee, a local, organic, fair trade artisan coffee roaster. As evidenced by a constant stream of customers lining up daily to purchase coffee and cupcakes Tee & Cakes is definitely on a growth path.

Kim’s expertise in designing unique, artisan wedding cakes has developed quite a following. In addition to wedding and custom made cakes she and Brian have developed the bacon cupcake that has been featured on Denver's CBS4  and Fox Philly. In late September the bacon cupcake will be featured on the Food Network's "Unwrapped." Tee & Cakes has been booked for weddings throughout the spring, summer and fall  -- there are many scheduled in the winter months. Each weekend Tee & Cakes is booked solid with custom cake and cupcake orders as well, with bakers working around the clock to fill as many orders as the small kitchen can handle.

Brian’s  Side B Apparel line, which specializes in short run designs that are printed on quality material includes men’s, women’s and children’s soft goods, with a popular line of onesies. He also is the engine that drives the Tee & Cakes website. He is constantly updating the site and looking for opportunities to bring the Tee & Cakes brand to the public’s attention. Some of these outlets include Twitter, Facebook, Vox and Blogger.

Throughout their business development process Kim and Brian have never lost sight of aspiring to a high level of customer service. They continuously seek feedback from their customers as to any new cupcake or apparel items they would like to see in the store.

Tee and Cakes charitable activities center around BCAP (Boulder County Aids Project), Greenhouse Partners, EFAA (Emergency Family Assistance Association), Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Venus de Miles. As President Obama said in a July 2009 speach in Raleigh, North Carolina "Cupcakes are good for your health".  Additionally, he even went so far as to say the stimulus money that went to tax cuts was "money in your pocket to buy cupcakes and other necessities of life."
